Yesterday on the mountain was fun, even in very inclement weather. It rained pretty much the whole time. By the end everyone was soaked. I am always so grateful for wool and polypro. Even wet those fabrics continue to help maintain body heat. I'm learning about doing winter things outside in the PNW. Things like I need a pack cover and to pack everything inside the pack in plastic bags. Everything. :) Fortunately, when it is so awful awful rainy in the mountains the temperature remains reasonable. I think it was almost 50 degrees where we were at...and nearly 60 degree when we got back to the city mid-afternoon. Just means that wet wasn't as dangerous as it can be.

I thought I might be bored snowshoeing but it was really pretty fun. We got off the main trail and walked in the deeper, softer snow among the trees...never in a straight line. It was really pretty to look out across the lake we were hiking above and to look through the trees at the various snow piles that are shaped by wind snow falling from trees and down trees and picnic tables... Fun! Had opportunity to visit with my companions, which is much harder to do when skiing. I fell once, not quite a face plant but it's always awkward to get back to your feet in soft snow with big board-like things attached to your feet! Found that there was NO impact and my knees didn't cry once. My right hip, OTOH, got pretty achy from picking up that leg for all that time. :) It stopped hurting pretty quickly after we stopped walking though, so that's good.

And last night DS and I went to bed about 730p. We watched Despicable Me first. :) And right now I am Starving for MEAT! I think I will put out a steak for our dinner later.

Today's weigh in was a happy one, especially since I did very little exercise this week. I'll get back to that starting yesterday. A walk and walking calisthenics are my plan for today. And stretching.

Another day of less than optimal health. Not liking. Did better on the food, in a way...at least lower calorie. Very lacking in roundedness of nutrition. It will improve as I get feeling better and have more energy. I think I need to thaw out some protein so it will be ready, and also make some soup. I froze 4 bowls of chili the other day, but right now I'm pretty chili-ed out from the several meals before that of it. :) Oooooh...I just remembered I have some polenta in the refridgerator. I will have that for a meal tomorrow...yummers. :) When I was younger and far less sophisticatedit was called cornmeal mush and it's absolutely delicious lightly fried like french toast, with maple syrup!

I'm scheduled to go ski or snowshoe on Friday. I do hope I'm up to it. The weather is actually soooo crappy here right now. The forecast for the mountains is really icky...rain and wind and more rain. (Yes, I know, I live in the PNW, it just IS.) I'm not sure what the criteria is for canceling a trip. It's not just me, it's a program with the YMCA that I'm volunteering with now through March. If it was just me, I wouldn't be going in these conditions. I'll be discussing it with the co-volunteers that have more experience in this neck o'the woods than do I.
