I went back up to 21 minutes of HIIT six out of seven days last week, though it still is more challenging than it was pre allergic reaction. My measurements stayed steady (43”hip, 34” waist) but I am likely to see some movement on the waist measurement next week simply because I am starting a ten day successive elimination protocol diet today. Starting with baseline low allergen diet, (no caffeine, dairy, peanuts, citrus, eggs, sugar/honey/maple syrup, etc for the duration), then over the course of days eliminating food groups one at a time ( meat and fish would go first if I ate them, then legumes nuts and seeds, milk substitutes, all grains except rice, solid food), until I am three days with liquids only. The foods are replaced by increasing doses of a medical food (UltraInflamx Plus 360 for me). So by next Sunday I just won’t have that much food in process in my tummy. I will also have some extra time because of not having to think about, make, or acquire normal food for three days.

Another week recovering from allergies. I only got back to 14 minutes of HIIT on Thursday (missing mon-wed). My sleep and sinuses are still lousy ( with several nights in the past week with less than 6 hours of sleep), and today is a battle the headache day. I woke up with a sinus headache, which rapidly ascended into a tension headache, and I am doing what I can to stave off escalation into migraine territory (flirting with visual sensitivity right now, glad the app journal entry screen is green and not white). My measurements crept up a quarter in waist and hip since last week (35.24” & 43.25” respectively). I have to much of the wrong food on hand to go for a complete anti-inflammatory diet, but I am considering a three day liquids only fast, or I might just wait till after the equinox and do my regular spring/fall ten day elimination fasting protocol, where each food group is successively eliminated until you are on three days of liquids only (supplemented with meal replacement protein powder, so full nutrition and not calorie restricted). Until I get to that, I plan to use the food I have.

Doing my weekly weigh in a day later that usual, as I just got back from a fun trip to the Bay Area full of friends and family. In spite of blowing well beyond my calories for three days in a row (though staying well within weekly calories) I am doing okay. I went back up to 14 minutes of HIIT per day, and will likely do the same this upcoming week. Right now during exercise is the only time I can breathe clearly. I become stopped up again as soon as I stop, though it is getting better. At least now that I have identified the culprit (adding nutritional yeast to my diet, to which I started reacting three weeks into the change, likely once I blew past the tolerance to incidental yeast (bread, vegetable bouillon) that made me think I was over my childhood yeast intolerance, when I couldn’t have yeasted bread without sniffling up within an hour of consumption), I can avoid it.
My sleep is really lousy though, mainly due to sinus discomfort, and was worse while I was away from home (my worst night away I got 4 hours of sleep, and averaged closer to six hours a night for the week instead of my usual 7+.
My measurements this week are a mixed bag. My hips back down to 43 inches exact of pre allergic reaction and exercise reset, but my tummy’s at 35 inches again. I am choosing to interpret this as swelling that will subside as I clear my system.
Good news bad news, at five pounds lighter, the sturdy pair of trousers I indulgently invested in at the beginning of December, anticipating years of good looking use, are starting to fit awkwardly loose even with the use of a belt (and I have now had two TSA pat downs in them because of that looseness), and have pocket and stitch detail placement such that they will be difficult to size down if it is possible at all, and the company closed in February, so I won’t have the option order a replacement pair when I reach a lower stable weight. A problem of success, so I will take it gladly, but I wish I had purchased the I might be able to wedge myself into there size instead of the guaranteed to fit my hips size. Hindsight. Sigh.

The last week has been not great. The cravings and back pain faded and morphed into a multi-day sinus headache that has now settled into just sinus ugh that’s not responding to my any of my usual antihistamines or anti inflammatories (or eucalyptus oil, or spicy food, or exercise for more than a few minutes) yet. Sleep has not been restful. Even eating is a challenge when you can’t consistently breathe through your nose and have to pause mid-chew to take a breath. I did add back in 7 minutes of HIIT starting Thursday, plus my TTapp calisthenics, after several days where my only exercise was my bicycle commute to work. Prior to this week I was up to 28 minutes of HIIT at least five days a week. Right now I feel weak enough that I know I will just have to build back up, though I did get in a 34 mile ride on the beach bike path on my day off on Thursday. Spaghetti legs after, but all good. The commute to work on Friday with rain and a mild head-wind was a day-after leg challenge.
My measurements are up for both belly (34.75) and hip (43.25), which doesn’t surprise me when even my head feels swollen.
Onwards to next week, which should be less stressful work wise with a weekend away at the end of it.
