It's been almost three months since I set my eyeballs on this site. I stuck to my exercise regime but had to stop altogether for two weeks as I had the flu. I only got back to it last thursday.

If I kept on exercising, the same cannot be said about the 1400 calories per day diet. While I didn't stuff myself with food, I stopped counting calories and I am not even remotely ashamed or guilty in doing so as it was nice to let go for a bit. It was also very nice not to think and talk about dieting for a while, which freed my mind to focus on things that needed more immediate attention.

So, as a result, I haven't actually lost weight but didn't get any either over that period of time. Now, I am back on track, logging on what I eat and recording the amount of exercise on FS, as I would very much like to go down to a two-figure weight instead of the three-figure number I am currently at. I am not in a hurry, it will take as long as it takes but I will go down to the weight I want.

I went to the gym this morning, after doing my usual errands with my partner and was a bit baffled to see the reception was seemingly closed, with its roller shutter down, and a note saying that swimming lessons are now cancelled altogether until January 25. No member of staff were in sight and I peered through the glass window at the swimming pool area: while nobody was visible there, the presence of mops and buckets made it plain the area was being cleaned up. While the leisure centre is clean and otherwise impeccably run and I am not planning to have swimming lessons myself, their communication skills aren't exactly praise-worthy. They don't seem to notify people in advance, even though it sounds like the decision to cancel the lessons was rushed and possibly caused by unforeseen circumstances.

There was nobody either at the gym and it was pure bliss to use it for about an hour, as I was the only person there.

Two weeks ago, the managers/owners of the gym I go to have changed the opening hours to accommodate swimming lessons and women with children. Even the gym itself has been affected. They didn't notify anybody officially until a few days ago, when I got the email that the schedule would be different until the 1st of March. The fact they didn't notify their members with plenty of time caused a few... interesting situations. And this is mildly put.

On Saturday 16th, I arrived in my tracksuit trousers and my swimming costume in a bag, as I wasn't sure as yet which activity to do in priority (swimming and/or cardiovascular exercises). The young woman at the reception informed me that due to lessons being given to kids and a special area being allocated to women with babies and toddlers, the pool was closed to the public this morning. Disappointed but otherwise unphased, I said:"Oh well, I didn't know... I will go to the gym instead."

Which I did. About 5 minutes later, as I was pedalling, the young receptionist came and told me that the teacher was prepared to accept me in the pool. Overjoyed, I thanked her for bending backwards to accommodate me and happily took the direction of the locker room. Once in the pool, I thanked the teacher and proceeded to swim for 45 minutes. I kept away from the teaching area as not to disturb the kids there being taught to swim. I was the only member of the public there, with the exception of the people who were actually authorised to use the pool that morning.

Once back in the changing room and dressed and ready to go, the receptionist came in to mop the floor and again, I thanked her for allowing me to use the swimming pool. She then told me that when she told other people that the pool was closed, she was exposed to a volley of verbal abuse and complaints, even though it wasn't her fault. Someone even walked into the swimming pool area, with their shoes on and in a rage, threw the clothes of a baby in a puddle of water... forcing the mother to wrap the infant in a blanket to be able to take it outside, as it was very cold that day. It turned out that I was the only outsider allowed in because I simply didn't behaved like the others when they were refused access to the pool.

Even if the leisure centre was at fault for not notifying their members, the behaviour shown by people who were refused access to the swimming pool was appaling and unacceptable... but not at all surprising given it's Hastings after all.

So, since that particular instance, most people, with the exception of kids taking lessons and mothers with children, are not allowed in at all during certain times, which restricts considerably when I can use the gym and the pool until the 1st of March when the hours return to normal. I have to use them during the afternoon as opposed to early in the morning as I normally do, which means I have to shift my workload around temporarily.

I came back here on FS to log in what I eat to keep an eye on the amount of calories but won't have time to do much else. So this may be my last journal entry for quite a while.
