The 4 Golden Rules…

It amazes me that simple little changes can make such big differences. Like for example, only eating when you’re actually hungry and making sure to stop eating as soon as you start to feel full. Yet when you think about these concepts they seem like common sense, but it's amazing that I (and I'm pretty sure most overweight people) never actually followed these rules before.

We eat because we're lonely or sad or happy or mad. We eat because it's time for dinner or breakfast or lunch. We eat because it's a sociable thing to do or because it just looks so damn yummy, even though we know we don't have room. We eat because we paid for it and we don't want it to go to waste or because it's a special holiday and that gives us the right to pile our plate’s sky high and eat until we want to die.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Why do we torture ourselves? Why do we eat like this? What happened over time that made eating like this acceptable? No wonder there are so many FAT people in this world!

I am determined to change this... starting with myself!!

good journal. insightful. I'm awful with all those rationalizations and justifications. The biggest for me is -- not wanting to be wasteful. Growing up in a kinda poor-ish ranch family, with a super thrify mother, and grandmothers who lived thru the depression, we didn't let food 'go to waste'. "waste not, want not" "there's starving people in india" I still refuse to throw food away. But I CAN cut back on the mindless munching.

LOL as Paul McKenna would say, "You being fat isn't going to help the starving people in India" LOL. But I know exactly what you mean Jess.

good quote! It's true, it is hard to throw food away, and even harder to say I'm done-when food tastes so good. It's all about balance and choosing to be on a path to better health. You are doing great by the way! Keep it up!! :)

How true! Funny the simple things we don't even think about are exactly the ones we should spend time thinking about. Your journal made me laugh. I can sooo relate and have sooo been there. Time to make some changes. We are working on it right!
