Hi!
Okay, so when I started this (under a Dr.'s orders) I was skeptical. I mean, how in the devil is this supposed to work? I don't really know, cause I haven't read the entire Atkin's book. What I do know is that I went back to the Dr. yesterday, and when I got on the scale it said 337. Wow! It IS the SAME scale that I have weighed in on for over 6 months, so I know it isn't lying. I am elated and in shock! I started taking the Flax seed oil this week too, along with a multi vitamin and some fiber. (The same Dr.Atkins says to use in the book) I include the carbs from that into my counting! I am amazed and in disbelief....well not really disbelief. I wore jeans 2 sizes smaller than usual yesterday. I saw them in the closet, remembered not being able to wear them, and said, "here goes nothing." Well, they not only fit, but fit with no tugging! Rah! Rah! So, I am very pleased. My PCP is ecstatic, and said my surgeon will love my compliance. Yea! With my birthday tomorrow, I know I will not miss the cake or ice cream! I will eat my semi-frozen pumpkin and cream cheese stuff and smile! With a 19 pound weight loss, it is hard to not be compliant. In fact, it is hard to not be ecstatic to follow the Induction phase to the letter of the law! I am thrilled. It is one more step in the right direction for me to flatten my liver, so that I can have the surgery. Life is good!

While I may not necessarily agree with your motives for going on Atkins, I applaud your success. You may want to read the entire book so that you understand how it works. Your post-surgery diet will most likely be one that is similar to the Atkins way of eating. I know two people who have had gastric bypass and they are polar opposites in their eating habits. One is following the prescribed diet which is high in protein and very low in "bad" foods. He is not experiencing any problems and appears to be quite healthy. He also is the older of the two. The other person eats junky food high in sugar and white carbs instead of following the prescibed post surgical eating plan. She is sick often and has much intestinal upset. She is probably 20 years younger that the other person but is experiencing more problems. Not only that, but she has gained back quite a bit of the weight she lost. Post surgical compliance is key to keeping the weight off and most importantly to good health. Just some food for thought. You need to do what is right for you and I wish you luck as you follow your path.

That is great news. Maybe if this diet works for you you won't have to have the surgery. That is awesome!
