If calories are consumed late at night....and no one is around....do they make a pound?

There is about 3500-4000kcal in a pound of fat. I don't think I could eat that much late at night ;)

Well you could eat about 450g of lard, or 6.4kg of Frozen mixed vegetables. 750g of Milk chocolate would probably be the nicest option, I think any of those would make me ill if I ate in one sitting.

I'll put my order in.....a 400g T-bone, fried not grilled thank you, sweet potato chips (hold on the salad) and the balance in cheesecake :0)

400g T-Bone (580kcal) + 2 servings of sweet potato chips (360kcal). That leaves you with 3000kcal or 12 slices of cheesecake??!?

Furthermore you would actually need to eat 4000kcal _above_ your daily allowance to gain a pound of fat.

Its still a lot of food. I guess the point I was trying to make is that you can't gain (or lose) a pound overnight, nor can you lose 3kg of fat over the weekend, like you thought I had. If I calculate averages, I am actually losing about 0.5kg a week since 2015/06/15

But seriously I once ate 3 marzipan loaves @ 300g each and a whopping 1467 calories each in one sitting....you don't get 7 stone overweight by smelling cupcakes I'm afraid.....

I know....I was only joking....I would never do that to myself now. I agree when I am on a roll I loss about that every two weeks, but I am happy with that.

A similar thing has happened to me. In that example its not the marzipan loaves (or whatever your craving), that cause you to gain weight. Its the "Well I've blown it now, so I don't care any more" attitude that follows. For me when I took a reality check, I realised its ok to splurge now and again, or even go on a food rampage. Just so long as you don't make a habit of doing so.

Yeah I pretty much had that attitude going for 8 years! But fortunately had that moment where I thought "what am I doing to myself" and reigned it in and lost the weight over 5 years (I'm a slow loser) - I have since gained 1 1/2 stone which I am not happy about but am back on track now and will lose it again and focus on staying there. I also agree that you have to have a splurge now and again, as long as you don't make a habit of it and are honest with yourself it's fine.

I wonder if you could design a somewhat healthier version of it. Wholemeal flour, and NuNaturals OatFibre. Flavored with stevia extract, and well, the almonds for the marzipan are healthy in moderation too.

It was a long time ago when I ate them....I just don't crave sugar like that anymore and think I would be physically sick if I even tried to eat them again!

Well I can understand why you might have an aversion to that. But, I am still on my own personal mission to create healthy loaves, in my bread maker. A lightly nutty bread with almond, flax seed, oat fibre and wholemeal flour...oooh I feel a recipe idea formulating.

Apparently (not sure if it is true or not) at night when you are resting or sleeping your metabolism slows down, so calories consumed during the night dont get used up as efficiently as when your awake. Not sure if this is true, all I know is if I eat after 8pm (normal meal, NOT snacking or anything extra) I put weight on.

@Vasporran. Thats definitely true, your RMR, or resting metabolic rate, is higher than your BMR, or basal metabolic rate. You are closer to your BMR when you are sleeping, and closer to your RMR when you are awake.

Not sure how that works with calories in/out over a 24 hour day....if you didn't eat all day and then ate all your 2000 calories at 11pm...yes you would weigh heavier the next morning, because you would have a lot of food in your stomach still, but whether they would stick as actual weight, I am not really sure. But again you have to find what works for you....I try not to eat after 7pm - simply because I don't sleep well if I eat too late.
