Day 1 - Cabbage Soup "diet"

Today I get to eat the cabbage soup and fruit.

I don't know why it is called the cabbage soup diet as the soup is made up of onions, carrots, cabbage, celery, mushrooms and tomatoes plus you get to add garlic and any herbs and spices you want - so really not as gross as it sounds...but perhaps I will feel differently in a few days!! I made my soup on Saturday as I was out all day yesterday and will probably make a fresh batch mid week. This batch I have left all the veg chunky so it will feel like I am eating a meal.

I had a bowl of fresh fruit salad this morning - I love fruit salad, but don't like strong flavours first thing in the morning so did find it a bit sweet, but ok. I think I will battle more on Wednesday when I can only eat veg....don't know what I am going to eat for breakfast that day.....

I have brought a thermos of heated soup for lunch and will have it again at dinner, but am thinking that I probably will need to have to double it up otherwise I won't reach the 3-4 bowls a day requirement...or perhaps I should have brought two thermos with me....will use today as a tester, as I am redoing Day 1 tomorrow so that I get the weekend with meat :)

I have decided to only drink water and herbal tea this week. If anything this week is getting me back into the mode of a discipline - I have not been able to commit to any long term eating pattern or exercise routine for months - sometimes you just have to bring out the big guns to get it done.

One obvious difference from my normal diet to this is the low fat content.

Hey Tracy, hope the cabbage soup diet is going well, i tried it years ago, i found that by adding lemongrass to it, it was a bit tastier, good luck x

Its a shame this "soup" doesn't contain some lentils, and chia. At least then it would go some way toward being balanced and healthy.

Hi GilesBathgate - I did think about if I decided to try this for a longer term I would add lentils to the soup and some shredded chicken - as long term this would not be great for your health.

There probably isn't much point in a "short term" diet especially a 7-day one. If you lose weight it will mostly be water and glycogen stores, and if its very low calorie you will slow down your metabolism. Afterwards when you go on a long term diet you will get a double whammy of weight gain as you rehydrate and gain weight from your slow metabolism storing any food as fat in case of another "famine". It might be a good way to kick start a healthy diet lifestyle, but why not start as you mean to go on?

I am not really doing it for weight loss - I am having a problem with commitment and decided I need to do something radical for a short term and force myself to commit to it. Sometimes you need to shake it up so you can refocus on what is good for you.....

That looks good - when I am back into normal zone I might try the food tracking pact - tracking has always helped me in the past.
