I woke up discouraged this morning. I feel fat and old. I know I haven't been eating "right" the last couple of weeks. Yesterday was very bad, as I was convinced I needed something more substantial for breakfast than yogurt and a granola bar. So as a last ditch attempt at getting something reasonably o.k. I stopped at Daylight Donuts for one of their breakfast burritos. The trouble is, I also impulsively decided I needed to buy a box of donuts for everyone at the office. And of course I had one. I had dinner all planned out for what I needed to eat to maintain my RDI, and it was decimated with one statement from my husband last night, "Let's go to IHOP." I went ahead and ordered what I wanted because we really don't go out to eat very often as a family.

The weight on the scale doesn't bother me this morning. I knew it was going to move in the wrong direction, so I was prepared for that. What has me down is with Doctor's appointments for three children, one with special needs, I find it diffficult to maintain a regular schedule of exercise and other physical activity, and I seem to have so many things working against me on eating well.

Stress at work, to the point I'm starting to not even want to go in is not helping. However I know the stressors there are temporary, and I just need to trudge through it to get to the other side.

Today's the first day on the Mediterranean Diet. I consulted with hubby last night briefly about it, and told him this morning I plan to buy and cooks some Tilapia for dinner this evening. This morning instead of stopping for a breakfast burrito, I bought a container of almonds, a container of banana chips, and a couple of fruit juices to go with my yogurt and granola bar. I made myself get up early to do some small exercises, and I packed my salad for lunch. I'm just going to have to take this one meal at a time, and try to remember to say "no" to guilt. Here's to a fresh start.

A night out to dinner with the family is healthy for the soul, too. We all do it, and I think it's actually a good thing to do. It sounds like you are back on track this morning. Don't beat yourself up too much about a 'bad day'. A healthy lifestyle includes indulgences from time to time, too.

It's going to happen from time to time. Look at your progress over a week's time versus the ups and downs of one or two days. You have just gotten started and you have to give your body time to learn new habits and stop craving the foods that are bad for it. The cravings may never go away completely but you will learn to deal with them better. Watch your sugars and carbs, and read the labels on everything you consider buying. And welcome to the pack !! :)

Old! I'd kill to be 34 again (well... not literally). Anywho, stay the course. Life means eating out with your family, enjoying yourself and then getting back on course. Think of your trip to IHOP as Spring Break -- no one LIVES Spring Break. And you're doing right with the Mediterranean Diet. It's a plan you can use for the rest of your life...not merely a diet. Making a plan (a blank calendar of go-to meals) can keep you from getting in a food rut and resorting to something, a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g that doesn't taste like what you've been eating. I just subscribed to Cooking Light mag!

I would love to be 34 again and know what I know at 49. I think there's a reason it doesn't work that way ;)

We ALL screw up now and then but picking back up is the real deal. Just continue like nothing ever happened and learn from our mistakes. I have made Sundays a free day for myself so that way I can't beat myself silly for messin everything up. But of course, not to go completley crazy and then come Monday I'm so ready to jump back with the "routine". I realize that this may not work for everyone but it's working really well for me! And like THEY said, wait til you get in your 40"S, lolol.... No pain no gain :)

We have all been there. Just be mindful and watch what you eat at the next meal even if its a meal out. As for the Mediterranean Diet, I'm also on it. Be careful about dried fruit and fruit juices. Way too much sugar and carbs. Eat fruit naturally. If you are really hungry in the morning try oatmeal, walnuts (any nut) and berries (option: mix it with Greek yogurt for more protein). It will fill you up and keep you full for awhile.
