All right ya'll, it's time for me to fess up.
I can't do the South Beach Diet any more.
It is just not working for me. I love all my SB pals and I hate to admit failure, but i have been on this diet since october and have lost and regained the same 10 pounds over and over again. I need more freedom of choice and I know that simply counting calories and limiting fat, and daily exercise works for me. I feel moody and out of sync when I am not having much carbs. I have learned a lot on this diet and I will bring a lot of that knowledge with me as I go on, but as far as all the rules and regulations, it ain't working. I eventually cheat and spiral out of control, and on this diet, you gain it back even faster than you lose it(at least I do). On another diet I've been successful on, Choose to Lose, where you have a fat budget and you can save up for a splurge, I have something to look forward to and don't feel devastated when I do splurge. I also don't regain weight two-four pounds in a day!
It's only human nature to want what you can't have, and I am tired of feeling like a failure. Better for me to allow myself the carbs I want, and limit total calories and fat, and continusly lose weight. I still think SB is a great diet, and I'm sad it didn't work for me, but I have to get off this yo-yo roller coaster.
I've learned that complex carbs, whole grains and vegetables are important to stabalize blood sugar, and that protein is vital, and I should have protein with every meal. I know that sugar is definitely my enemy, and i need to watch my intake of it, but I am not going to drive myself mad over it either. I never really beleived that things like whole grain bread, potatoes and whole wheat pasta were the enemy though. As much as I hate to leave this chapter behind, I have to do what works for me, and find my own path to thinness and health. I need to just gradually lose the weight and not rapidly lose and gain over and over as I have been.
To all my SB friends, thank you for your support and kindness, it has meant the world to me, and I'm sorry I haven't been able to stick with it as many of you have.

I'll still write you a poem! Trust me, you will get there before me. I think I've gained more since the last time I weighed. I am still going to keep up with my pals, I'm just going to follow my own diet, counting calories and fat. I feel a bit like a failure but it's worse to religiously follow a diet that you can't stick to.

I just want ya'll to know I still think the South beach diet is a great healthy plan, and it works for many people, but I guess old habits die hard for some of us!

Finding the right thing that works for you is KEY!! It can't be a quick loss, or as you've seen, it won't work. You will find something that works, I like your thinking about counting calories and such... it will work for you... just be patient. Remember that losing slowly will help you keep it off longer. :) Changing your life to continually be thinking about what fuel you are feeding your body... is it going to help you attain your goal or not? ;) You'll be fine hon. Everything is not right for everyone. Good luck!

You know that leaving the SB diet doesn't mean leaving fatsecret and all the friends you've made here, right? I think it's great that you have the self awareness to figure out what kind of diet will work best for you. Keep on the fatsecret site, though, and let us know how it works out for you! I don't think any of us care whether or not you are on the same diet as me, we just want to help you succeed in reaching your goal. Congrats on your decisions. This is *not* a failure!! :)

Lotus.....I do hope you stay around and let us know how you are doing with your new plan. You did NOT fail. You can't know what will or will not work for you unless you try it first, and you gave it a good go. So now it's time to find something that fits you better. Good Luck!!

You haven't failed! It's most important that you understand your limits and what works for you. I can't do any diets where I have to count carbs, calories, or follow a strict plan. Since you know what foods to eat, you're already on your way to a better eating plan. Just keep checking in...you'll get support no matter what plan you're on.

Thanks ya'll. I'm not going anywhere, I love this site. Everyone is so supportive, it feels like a big family! Hopefully this will be the turning point for me. I am also trying to work on my self-esteem issues and accept myself the way i am, even as I try to lose weight. I think I have made some good progress in that area since coming to fatsecret, and I thank everyone for all your help and encouragement, it means the world to me. Love ya'll!
