Any tips for staying low calorie and low carb on holidays? My mom's recipes are mostly eyeballed so I would have trouble inputting the recipes to get accurate calorie counts. I just want to enjoy the foods and not make a big deal about my new "diet."

Maybe I can get by with just very small servings of each dish, and eating only one meal on those days?

I suppose it depends on what you want to eat, and your diet. I think preplanning is the key. Know what and how much of each food you want to eat. When I go to Someone's house I eat just before I go and I bring snacks with me. Then when its meal time your not starving. I'm type 2 diabetic so that's my excuse if someone tries to push Aunt Flo's sugar filled whatever on me lol

You're right, I'll have to plan this ahead if I don't want to end up with 4000 calories for the day.

Glad to see you are already planning for the holidays...I am planning on staying my course...there may be one or two days I go over my goal of daily kC...but I also know that there are some things that I must avoid..I must be aware of sugars and simple carbs- I will not indulge in them...good luck...stay motivated and focused

also I think what happens is the holiday day turns into holiday weeks, and pretty soon you are eating a bunch of holiday foods on a bunch of days. So I am going to try to not eat the holiday foods until the actual days, and stay on program the rest of the days. Hopefully that will not make me gain back all the weight I took 8 months to take off.

Thanks ScottH! Right, trying to avoid sugars/carbs is definitely at the top of my list. Little Red Fox: yes I'm going to try for the same goal! Holi-DAYS not holi-WEEKS. Only eating thanksgiving food on thanksgiving, only eating Christmas dinner on Christmas. I also told everyone not to give me any candy except for maybe one dark chocolate bar. Best of luck to you!

I am with you all. A sensible plate, and one helping of 1 dessert on Thanksgiving day only. I will try to resist the urge to weigh the next day and just wait until Monday morning, which is supposed to be my regular "weigh day." Hope to handle Christmas the same way. Must say I'm nervous. Moderation, self control, strength.....we can do it.

the best way to beat the holiday/event is to eat high fat in the morning. wake to only coffee w/ heavy cream.(bulletproof) fast until lunch the try hormel pepperoni and babybel fills you up. It works for me everytime. also gives you play with carbs and protein at the event. Stay strong

What's your WoE (way of eating)? I can't tell from your food log. I used to stock up on foods I really loved that fit however I was eating at the time, and bring/prepare enough to share, so I didn't feel excluded or like I was sacrificing. Your plan sounds perfectly rational, but might feel diet-y to me. What about increasing total intake to maintenance level, while keeping carbs low, by eating more delicious fats?

T8U9, you can see my food log?? I didn't know that was public. Anyway I try to do high fat/low carb, staying under 20% carbs. I'm new to that and still learning. My calorie goal is 1200 but I can maintain at probably 1800. I was thinking of making something to bring that I KNOW is healthy, but I can't even come up with anything. My trouble is that I don't even like turkey, it's the carb-y sides that entice me and I need to find some low carb replacements. Losemyfatbelly, great idea! I was thinking of just fasting straight until dinner but realized that could easily lead to overeating. I will try your suggestion, it sounds doable.

Update: spoke to my mom on the phone today about what we're having for Thanksgiving. Found out she is making roast chicken instead of turkey, which is great because I hate turkey. So I'm planning on having a serving of chicken, some keto stuffing (have to try the recipe first to make sure it's good), one or two deviled eggs, roasted carrots, and one small serving of broccoli casserole. I may eat that amount of food spread out across the evening, but I should accomplish my goal of participating in Thanksgiving dinner without going crazy with the calories/carbs.
