So I think this "zig-zag" plan of variable calories is working. I find myself being hungry more often and my energy is way up but I'm not gaining back weight. Granted, I haven't lost any weight yet, either, but if my metabolism is really ramping up (and I feel it is) I think it is only a matter of time.

On the exercise front I'm nursing something of an injury. I've strained a muscle over my ribs. During 90% of movements it doesn't cause a problem, but it burns like fire if I make a motion that aggravates the injury. It caused me to take a day off yesterday, but that is probably a good thing. It never hurts to take a day off and allow the body to rest.

It also appears that I'll have to start training for another test. In March I'll be testing for the next rank in my martial art. With enough practice I'll be able to get a green belt, but I'm not counting on it. I still have so much to learn.

You have a point about the injury. Our bodies can heal a lot of things on their own, if only we gave it a chance. Some time off can be just the thing for it. It's great to see your enthusiasm for your martial arts. I used to do judo, but I really only did it for the fun company. My friends and I were all taking it together. I never really got in to it. I wanted to feel passionate about it, but just didn't. I am always a little envious of people who have zeal for something physical like that. My biggest passion is reading, which isn't exactly the best exercise. Good luck with your green belt.

Thanks you two. Cindy, I'm actually up in weight this morning but I'm ignoring it... we'll see what my weight does tomorrow. Nina, my biggest passion is reading as well. It is actually really hard for me to put down a book and go out to exercise. Have you tried any of the eBook readers yet? I'm pretty partial to the Nook and Sony Touch.

I hope your feeling better today. Good job not gaining. I don't quite understand the metabolism thing or how to tell what you are burning. I lost 2 lbs last weigh in and I don't want to lose more so last week when my daughter was here I ate like a pig and gained most of it back. I wish there was a way to figure it out. I do cardio everyday and I do a cardio weight combined 3x a week in addition to. Just wish I could figure out what I am burning and what I need to consume to maintain. Have a good night!

I haven't tried the ebook readers for one reason. My vision is not the greatest and any kind of glare just puts more strain on my eyes, so I just stick with the good ol' paper. I do listen to CD books if I like the reader. Sometimes you can get a truly great experience listening to someone read well. My latest favorite CD book reading was the Duma Key by Stephen King. The reader there - John Slattery is a professional actor and his voice is absolutely magical. Other than that I read a lot of different genres - mystery, suspense, science fiction, urban fantasy, some nonfiction too. Good thing there are a lot of books out there still available on paper.
