I do it from dinner to dinner. So yeah, I'm asleep for 7 of the 24 hours. Then I go to crossfit class & only eat dinner again the next evening. I drink coffee, green tea & water during the day.

I thought I would, but I'm still waiting to die from hunger ;-) It's really all in the mind Saige, we were so indoctrinated by food societies, that we believe we gonna feel faint, etc if we don't eat. Do you know who came up with breakfast is the most important meal of the day? A cereal company... Why? Because they saw dollar signs! Do you think our hunter-gatherer ancestors had breakfast? Kept left-overs from the day's hunt? I don't think so... In fact, I'm sure they didn't even eat everyday. And they didn't starve to death. Why should you? Same goes for predators... They don't eat breakfast. Unless they just hunted, they don't even eat every day... They don't starve...
Just some of my thoughts...

Leksie...I totally agree with your thoughts. I think the other issue is that so many of us grew up with our moms saying things like...you must always eat breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day, otherwise you could faint or your brain won't work properly etc...so it definitely takes quite a mind shift. The physical aspect of fasting i.e. the weight loss and health benefits are awesome and quite do-able... but in order to do this we need to exercise that muscle called willpower. It's all in the head, as they say! Its reminds me of the Yoda saying...Do or Do Not, there is no TRY... :)

Yeah... Will power is the most important factor.

Are you guys not scared of losing muscle instead of fat by fasting such long periods of time. Our muscles need food to feed it in order for it to grow properly.

Yolanda, what is our fat ? It's stored food. Our muscles are being fed by the body breaking down its fat to feed it's muscles when there is lesser food available for it to do the same with. One would need to be a very low body fat percentage to actually have a loss in muscle due to fasting. Extensive research has been done and it debunks the myth that your body will burn up muscle if there is no or too less food. One would also need to have no food for a few days to actually reach that point and we have a fast day followed by a feed day so we never get to that point.

Nope my dear... That is exactly the kind of mentality people have about fasting... Do you think your body is stupid enough to start eating itself? It will not, instead, it taps into those stored away fat sources that we have so happily collected... Please read this blog, then you will understand.

I was just wondering thats why I ask , like i said somedays I feel soooo hungry as if i cant think and then some days I feel like wow where did the time go. Today I'm trying to make my fast longer from 8PM till 2pm so that will be 18hours fasting and 6hours not fasting( of course i don't eat the whole 6 hours.lol)will try to up my water , IT is so hard in this cold weather , and keep the coffee and tea to 3 cups for the day. can you inbox that link i cant open it from your post please

Saige18 the difference with muslims doing their fast for Ramadan is that their fast is just no food from morning to evening and then when they break fast that evening they may eat anything that will amount to 1000's of calories for the day. This could cause weight gain because although one is abstaining from food for 12+ hours, one is consuming too many calories daily although "fasting". The key aspect to achieve weight loss is to limit the food intake to 500 calories or less on fast days. Following 16:8 everyday does not make everyday a fast day. 16:8 is known as "intermittent fasting" which means not continuous. The fasting where calories are restricted to 500 calories for a day is considered a full continuous fast. It's important to understand these two concepts about fasting to make it work effectively for you.

I thought a true fast is liquids only (ideally water only) and for a minimum of 24 hours. And anything else is considered "intermittent" Surely if you are consuming 500 calories your body is not in a true state of fasting.

Well done Saige18..if you keep extending your fast the way you are...eventually you will be able to fast dinner to dinner xx

LCFF yes a true faat is minimum 24hours and liquid only that is less than 50 calories. But they found that one can call it a "fast" by keeping it to 500/600 calories as in 5:2(4:3) since the calories are below what one needs for daily living. I see in the other forums that they don't call it a "fast" day but call it a "Down Day" where they keep calories down to 500/600 calories. I guess it's somewhat how one interprets the terms used.
