I hate working out after getting tattooed. easy way to get an infection if not handled properly. plus it hurts like crazy. oh well. not a bad work out overall. GOOD MORNING PEOPLE!

Schedule your tats on on your recovery weeks. :) I have to since mine current projects cover my entire rib cage on one side. :)

I'm planning my first, and may be my only, tattoo. Is shoulder/arm easier to deal with? Just curious. I figure that's a fairly simple place to rinse and bandage.

Just for your thoughts, my new diet says avoid sugar at all cost after you work out. I thought that was interesting.

@northern... Shoulder arm, those are very easy to deal with. The shop may want to sell you expensive solution for cleaning, you can find various types of the same stuff in your local pharmacy a lot cheaper. For shoulder and arms, it feels like a dry electric toothbrush rubbing on your skin, which you quickly get used to. I took a tablet and watched "300" :-) @warrenwinter, if your diet says avoid sugar post-workout, it's wrong...period, no two ways around it. If you want specifics, let me know.

Thanks Mahjohn. I agree on the post workout too. An insulin spike can carry nutrients directly into the muscle. It can be helpful if used correctly.

@northernmusician upper arm isn't too bad. And don't let the shop sell you expensive cleaners. I have both arms sleeved and all you need is aquaphor scent less soap and scentless lotion. Wash every 4 hours with the fragrance free soap and apply aquaphor for the first 3 days. Then switch to just applying lotion as needed. It is a fail proof way to heal.

And ribs sound bad. I am almost done with my 2nd sleeve then it's back and chest. I think i will skip ribs. Lol

I have one on the upper back at the lower neck area - seemed painless at the time. Looking for my second but not sure where I want it.

Wash with liquid soap diluted with water to 1/2 strength every 4 hours for several days. Moisturize with a thin layer of product to create moisture barrier. Choose products you like. My significant other worked at a shop so we usually try the new products our tattoo artist friends are pushing LOL. Any place where there is more flesh over the bones is easier. Places with little flesh or that don't normally get much sun are tougher.

northern .......... ribs were hell for me sternum was a cake walk calf was fine except closer to the ankle and back of the knee .. got a bit annoying. inside ankle was fine... upper thigh was easy and.... uhhh... nether regions i have to say was the easiest. I'm assuming shoulder would be fine except collar bone... arm would be easy except closer to the arm pit and the under side. ..... just pinch the areas for a gage of how it will feel... then imagine it pinching all over really fast for like an hour ha ha ha....

nooo let it heal first! a few days of exercise are not worth messing up art that remains on your body for decades ...
