exercise every day, you're labeled as "obsessed"
putting our own health first is "selfish"
trying to better yourself is "not loving or accepting yourself"
"gym rat"
"health nut"
"fitness freak"
"gotta enjoy life"
"one candy bar won't kill you"
being accountable to yourself and exhibiting control is "eating disorder".

this is what people trying to succeed must face.

i do what i do because i love myself and value my wellness and health is a gift.

Haters are gonna hate....It's the new Norm for folks to pass judgement on things that are not any of their business and they think that if you are not doing exactly what they are doing...then you are wrong. I love it when people walk to the beat of a different drum and I love it even more when they leave my drums alone!!!

Yes!!! I truly understand where you're coming from. Most people lack the self discipline to stick to a program and see real, lasting results. So they have to insult and belittle those who do. Yesterday, my brother once again lit into his diatribe on keto and intermittent fasting. He did this, having gained about 50 lbs this year, while shoveling about 4x more food in his face than the normal person, and knowing his diabetes is raging out of control. 🤔 Meanwhile, I'm down 40 lbs in the same timeframe, counted all of my calories over Thanksgiving, and haven't missed a workout while I cleaned and cooked and decorated and entertained. Not obsessed. Dedicated. I know what my goals are and I'm willing to put forth the effort. 💯

I must be hanging out with the right people cause I've gotten praise for my changes & since I started, several family members have jumped on the band wagon. I do eat foods some might find unacceptable but all in moderation, maintaining my weight loss.

May I suggest that you are ready for some new friends? If you cannot move to an area where thin is the norm, then join a gym or studio or club where health & exercise is the lifestyle.

I actually gave up a few friends a couple of years ago as I watched them sink further and further into diabesity and severe health issues. Their primary focus in life was FOOD. The gap in our lifestyles just became too great. After a couple of them died from their issues I just had to remove myself from their world.

Personally I don’t talk about my lifestyle much with most people, mostly because I don’t want to give the impression that I’m judging anyone. I quietly get my workouts in and i eat my nice meals at home and no one knows because i never bring it up. I’m not on social media apart from this app so im not sharing what im doing with the world. It’s for me, for my health, for my future that I do this. People are sometimes offended by other people’s success because it forces them to see their own shortcomings. Most people are not willing to be honest with themselves so they’ll just lash out at you for doing well, because (in their mind) you made them feel a bad feeling. Especially if you’re excited about your success. I agree with what others have said that it could be helpful to try to find new social groups who are more supportive, but also for the people you know won’t be supportive - if they are people you love and care about, maybe just don’t mention what you’re doing and let the results just speak for themselves, and change the subject if they try to bring it up. If you’re doing this for yourself and not for their approval, then maybe don’t give them the space to approve or disapprove. It’s not about them, it’s about you, it’s for you, it’s your life, and you get to enjoy your health and wellbeing.

My motto came from Oscar Wilde - be yourself, everyone else is already taken.

people cannot psychologically cope with the effort and degree of difficulty it is to be healthy or fit. they cope with it by deflecting and dismissing healthy people's efforts, discipline and accountability to themselves.

Ddrudd, I agree with you a 100%. It’s best to treat this discomfort others may have with weight loss lightly, and evade it (or even diffuse it with humor if possible) not to rupture otherwise good relationships. Just as we are psychologically adjusting to our weight loss, others might need time to adjust to seeing us in a different way, too.

What other quest requires we open the cage door three times a day and take the tiger for a walk? Forget what they say,,, I know the strength of your stride it takes.

I BS'd myself for 30 years on this. I was huge for most of my adult life and was able to pull it off via "relative" fitness for my side -- AKA I 'carried it well.' But Type 2 diabetes had a different take on my reality. That and an aversion to lifelong drugs is what flipped the switch for me. Good luck to all who haven't crossed over yet.

it was just disappointing and an eye opener. it made me feel like I was doing something wrong by switching to being healthy and in control. it was a hard one to process.
