I thought I was nuts.

After some of my bike rides I would smell ammonia. It wasn't in the room or on me. It seemed to come from inside my nasal passages. I have Aspergers and one of my unique abilities or flaws (really depends on the situation) is I have a heightened sense of smell. I'm the guy who can smell a food and tell you what's in it. I also can't stand garlic to my wife's horror. The smell actually offends me, it's to strong.

It bothered me a couple times as I couldn't pin point where it was coming from. I decided to look it up:

What's that Ammonia Smell?

Cool article. THX Ed!!! My son has Aspergers. He is sensitive to loud noises and food textures. The lawn mower, the saw, the nail gun makes him steer clear of working and trying to help him cope/overcome some of that we have given him earplugs and have him mow the lawn. I imagine scents and strong ones are harder. I have a sensitive nose and florals offend me esp perfumes and colognes and I have a friend that gets migraine level headaches from any scents. I mean you are not even allowed to touch her or her things because it is perceived as the oils transfer skin to skin or skin to object that she can still smell the offending stuff days later.

Interesting article. Usually long bouts of cardio are catabolic to your body. Try cycling your diet around your rides to see if you can minimize the smell. Also the intake of small amount of simple carbs during your ride might be helpful.

I can't eat pickles lol. The texture sends me into overload. I couldn't eat Pizza until into my 20's. I'm on the lighter end of the Asperger scale. I was in my late teens when I had an epiphany about myself. I was a loner and a recluse. A Boy Scout leader got me on a swim team as a diver. (a very tall diver at that) I ended up my senior finishing 11th in the state and I got the recognition of being the tallest to compete in state history at the event. That changed me a lot, I came out of my self imposed shell. To this day I can still do repetitive actions almost endlessly. ie my biking and I stand in front of my dart board for hours.
