Quick update here. I have put on considerable weight from my last weigh in, and since my calorie intake hasn't gone up I'm guessing this is all water weight. However, interestingly, my waist is 1/2" smaller, my chest is 1/2" larger and my muscle mass percentage is up by 0.6%, accounting for about 3 lbs of the change. That said, I've managed to give myself several small injuries today (strained a one of my quadriceps when stepping over something and accidentally dropped a 70 lb dumbbell on my chest) so we'll see if that muscle mass sticks around while I recover. We'll see where I'm at in a couple of days when I actually record a weigh in.

Ouch! I hope after the injuries the muscle mass stays around. Take care of yourself and have a speedy recovery.

Ouch! Let your body heal and then you can get back with your exercise. Sounds like you are losing inches and that is always a good thing. :-)

Thank you, guys. The sympathy is much appreciated. :) The muscles are already recovering, and so long as I don't do anything stupid like really stretch out there isn't too much pain.

I hope you feel better from the injury! I hate when that happens! You get yourself into a really good stride and then, bam!, you hurt yourself. I've done that many times! As for the weight gain, if you're doing everything right and you know there should be a loss, don't pay attention to the scale. It will come around.

Injuries can cause weight gain. Your body holds on to excess fluid while it heals. The same thing happens when you do a hard workout, although to a lesser extent.

Yeah, given how fast I've shed that gain it appears to be the case. I wrote this entry right after the double take I did when I weighed myself. Tonight I'll be testing out my quadriceps. My pectoral muscle is still not 100%.
