Hi all! Newbie here, thought I’d say hi.

I have a massive 50lbs to lose which feels a bit daunting but I’m not sizing up my clothes agains so something needs to happen! I thought I’d try calorie counting which I’ve never done before.

Any advice about how to use the app or any fave receipts please let me know!

Welcome Holly, 50 lb at a steady healthy 1lb per week will get you to your goal weight by this time next year. Losing 1 lb a week usually requires around 500 calories per day deficit, either from eating less and/or exercising more. The app helps you to calculate and track all that stuff for your own unique circumastances. Good luck!

Fantastic name Holly! A weekly weigh-in and log everything you eat on here . It really helps to see what works. And drink lots of water!

Hi Holly, welcome! It can be a pain when u first start adding foods into ur diary but after a while it gets easier as it remembers ur favourites instead of having to type them in constant, its worth it though and ul be surprised at where the sneaky calories are...there are loads of amazing supportive people here with great advice if u need it, just shout and some1 will answer!!❤

Hello Hollymcfabulous, firstly very welcome to fat secrets we are friendly and kind and helpful. My suggestion is try to stick to 3 meals a day, weigh your food on bluetooth scales they connect to your app. Always eat before food shopping, never on an empty stomach. Weigh yourself only once a week as if you weigh too often you get fed up and give up. Never weigh when you are wet and wet hair as water weighs quite a bit. Try and plan your food for the week so you don't buy too much. If you can cook, cook from scratch if possible. Hollymcfabulous, considerate on your word fabulous. Very good luck Merry Mel. 🤩.

I think that is good advice from Merry Mel. I also think there's a hidden danger with weighing yourself weekly because we expect the weekly numbers magically to smooth out the daily fluctuations. But you can do everything right all week and on the day of your weigh-in the scale can easily show a 0.5 or 1.0 kg gain just because that day your body decided to retain water or whatever. I think the hardest part of losing weight is keeping the faith and trusting the process. The weight on the scale can bounce around from week to week, it's just a snapshot at a point in time. But over the months the trend should become clear. As they say, it's a marathon not a sprint. Good luck Holly.

Gosh........... I am pure blushing here. Thanks, Heather. But, yes there are loads of people here who will help and support you. But it isn't easy..........worth it though.
