Not so much to do with weight loss, but just with life in general. I have no idea how to get out of this job I just got without feeling like a failure. It doesn't pay beans and I always have to be there at night and I don't get home until around 11. I don't see my husband because he leaves early for work and goes to bed early. We don't get to eat meals together which is very important to me. Now I have most of my meals by myself and when I'm at work I eat alone out of tupperware. It's depressing. It was supposed to be something to get me out of the house a little during the day--part time--and it's turned into this really boring night job. My supervisor is out of town until Wednesday and I guess I'm just going to have to tell her that I can't work as much as she has me on the schedule. It's supposed to be no more than 30 hours a week and it's turned into way more than that. I was told the company doesn't hire anyone as full time so they don't have to provide benefits or overtime pay, but will work everyone way more than full time hours, but then one week will drop the hours to below part time so you aren't automatically classified as full time. They're a bunch of shysters if you ask me. Ugh.
I did however make two casseroles today so at least there's some food for a few days around here. Oh well--I should be happy to have a job--but I'm not. I'm on call for tonight's trip so I've got to call in at 430 to see if there are enough passengers to warrant me coming in. Crossing my fingers there won't be but having a feeling there will. Then I work tomorrow from 12 to 1030 ish Wednesday from 8 to 1030ish and on call again on Thursday. I have off Friday, Saturday and Sunday for which I'm thankful, but I requested it when I was hired since Friday is my birthday and I want to have some fun.
I hope everyone is having a good Monday.

I've worked in Human Resources in the state of Florida for many years and according to what you are encountering, I can assure you they are breaking several labor laws if you are their employee (not a 'contractor'). They can and will continue their ways as long as they are not reported. They should pray they are never investigated! I'm sure there are more part-time opportunities out there better suited to you. You should definitely NOT feel like a 'failure'. This employer was not honest with you - that is their failure - not yours! Do what you need to do for yourself and don't worry about 'letting down' someone who didn't have the decency to be honest with you in the first place. Most importantly, have a FABULOUS birthday weekend!!!! ☺ ☺ ☺

Thanks for the responses. I haven't been checking in lately. I talked to my direct supervisor yesterday about my hours and I told her I didn't want to be there more than 3 days a week so that's what I'm on the schedule for next week. Apparently, if a person is employed in the marine industry and works on a boat then there is no over time law. I'm sure this is supposed to apply to ocean going vessels where they are gone for weeks at a time and there is a limited number of people to do the work since they are on a ship and can't exactly go home and return to their jobs. However, I work on a tour boat that is never more than a few feet from land (we are on a river, not the ocean). The company has been in business for 75 years so I guess it's very good at finding loopholes.

Hey -- happy early birthday. And 179lbs!! You're doing something right. This job sounds bad though - good for you on confronting them and telling them your needs!
