Seeking advice: per my journal, I'm losing at a rate of 2.4 lbs. a week. The only week that I had a gain was the week I switched to a better scale, and I truly believe it was because the old one was weighing me light. So I believe I've been pretty consistent, and have only gone over my 1200 cal/day allotment once (slightly).

For someone 100+ lbs. overweight, 2.4/week doesn't seem too crazy...but, I also don't want to lose too fast in an effort to (somewhat) avoid loose skin, nor do I want my metabolism to slow down (on busy days, I struggle to hit 1200 cals).

So my question: is it time to bump up to 1500, or should I go for the bigger weight drops while I can? Note that I have also started exercising daily--not specifically cardio (although anything at my weight is "cardio" 😉 ), but more strengthening exercises for my knees (think squats, leg extensions, etc.). But the benefit of this is that I am now able to be on my feet longer, and am moving around more in general. If I go up to 1500, I'm hoping that the extra movement will still give me a good rate of loss, even with more calories. Thoughts?

Thanks, ajf! I'm usually fine on 1200, but I have a psychological issue with going over to the extent that I undereat. For example, let's say it's mid afternoon and I still have 400 calories to go. That's a fairly decent supper, but my brain goes to "I'm almost at 1200, I need to cut way back" and I end up eating way under. If I was doing 1500, that would leave me 700 for supper and I'd be more likely to eat at least 1200 calories (that is, my brain wouldn't go into panic mode until I hit about 1200, but I would still have room for a snack if I need it). I was once told by a dietitian to never go below 1100, because that's where metabolism is triggered to slow down.

Kibun noodle is a bit $$ at $25 for 14 oz. Is that how much you're paying?

I wish I had your issue. My metabolism is high so I'm always hungry. Congrats on your NSV🎆. I had to look up the meaning. My first time on a serious life changing diet/lifestyle change.

Suzy, we each have to find what works for us. I eat 1500-1600 a day (can't count the last year, when I was eating 2000+ and maintaining) and lose weight. I'm old and inactive. My goal is to learn eating habits that will sustain me for the rest of my life, so for me, there are no forbidden foods. Good luck on your journey. 💜
