Food poisoning very painful and inconvenient. Sometimes eggs have salmonella--- no fun. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm home from work today too. #1 Didn't have alot to do at work today and #2 feel like crap. Pardon the expression. I have never gotten sick from eggs but a beefy taco from Taco John's did me in one time long ago and I couldn't eat tacos for a long time. I can eat Taco Bell but that's it. And most of the time I get the chicken tacos anyway. Feel better soon!

I think all these eggs came from the grocery store...however, my husband does have chickens outside that lay eggs. He sometimes brings those in and puts them in the fridge. I am not really sure that these are store bought eggs...I should have done the water test on them first...but was in a hurry and just grabbed a carton out of the fridge. I thought the dates were still good...but I used them all and threw the carton away. I was not about to dig through the garbage when I felt like crap. Now I am feeling better and will water check the rest of the eggs in the fridge by the water test before they get used or thrown. Eggs are going to be very hard for me to eat unless they are in something that has been baked to a temp that will kill any problems. I honestly thought I would not have a problem. This hit me out of the blue.

Water test? What is that? I just got some chickens and try to make sure I gather eggs daily. Hopefully they wont go bad on me. I really don't like eggs and have gotten quite a supply in the fridge.

when you put eggs in a bowl of water...if they sink to the bottom they are fresh. If they stand on end they are getting old and if they float they are bad. I have tried it a few times. Everything I tested today all sunk to the bottom.

Alex...also make sure that you wash the outside of the eggs as the salmonella can be on the outside.

I do the water test if I find an egg outside the nest box or if my DH leaves them out. They stay good usually for several days even without refrigeration.

Thanks. I do wash the outside of the eggs and then I refrigerate them. I did read that it was better not to wash them and not to refrigerate them but - yuck. I think that would be gross

Hi K, Sorry you got sick & hope you're all better very soon. What I do is just wipe the shells of our fresh chicken eggs (from our chickens) with a wet paper towel. Eggs from your chickens will stay fresh for at least 2 weeks in the fridge. Just so y'all know, eggs bought at the stores are often over 1 month old. Now THAT's YUCK!

Thankfully we have a family from our church that run an egg processing plant in our town. We only get eggs from them...they are the freshest we can get besides from our own. I just don't want to use our own because I don't want to run across any with blood spots.

I still eat eggs with blood spots. Won't hurt you.
