What does everyone do when there is a bunch of food that your co-workers unknowingly are constantly pushing on you? Every Friday we have faculty bring in tons of junk and put it in the faculty room for everyone to share and eat. Today was egg and bean burritos, chips, Mexican layered dip, I mean all stuff that I LOVE! So I caved. It's the first time in over a week I have broken down and then gone overboard with how much I ate. I'm constantly battling with my will power to either not eat evil food, or try to limit myself. But I find if I cave and eat it I'm less likely to be able to keep myself from over-doing it. Basically I should just not eat the junk when I smell it, but it's so hard!!! So I have upped all my physical requirements for the day on my list and am really going to push myself to try to make up for it a little. I know I can't totally make up for it, but I can make up for some of it...
C25K is going to be rough. I'm glad I'm doing week 1 both this week and next week as my legs are SO TIRED today and I know I am really going to struggle to get through the workout. Luckily I have some music on my ipod that always makes me want to move, so hopefully that will really help me.
Have a good weekend everyone!!!

if you find it hard to avoid all the treats on Friday, or limit yourself when you do have some, then is there any way that you could just avoid the faculty room on Fridays? But yeah, kick up your physical activity as much as you can to try to compensate. Or... maybe, if this is a constant Friday problem, you could try to plan for it throughout the week... do a bit more exercise every day and eat super-healthy so you don't have to feel so bad if you crack and have a Friday treat??

I simply ignore the foods that are in front of me if I'm not hungry or like b_girl suggested, plan for it by incorporating it into your weekly eating plan; that way, you get to enjoy it. It also doesn't hurt to indulge yourself once in a while.

I wish I could ignore it, but the faculty room is the room next to ours and I have to walk by it to go anywhere else in the building. My immediate co-workers know about my diet and plan, etc., but others in the building do not so they are constantly asking me if I want something, inviting me in... ARGH! I know it doesn't hurt to indulge, but I always feel horrible when I do...

Share the love and bring your own alternative food to let them enjoy. Either your own veggie platter of try a new low calorie recipe for them to get excited over. Everyone will soon look forward to what you'll be bringing and possibly be encouraged to try their own low fat alternatives. Make it a fun time for you to shine!!!!

that's a great idea kyak... there are some great tasting low calorie/low fat recipies out there, so maybe you should try bringing in one for them to try sometime! kim1214 - I understand how hard it can be to just ignore it - whenever people bring treats into my office, they usually end up on my desk (it's a small office), it's so hard to just turn my back to it and pretend it's not there! So that's when I started trying to compensate for times like that...

Thanks for all the advice, I have noticed that no one ever brings anything healthy in, so I'll mention that to the coordinators and see if they can try to put a healthy twist on it. The ironic thing is that our school got a huge grant to promote students and faculty to be more active and healthy... and yet every Friday we pig out on super unhealthy food...

I bring healthy versions of what they have... and the healthy versions actually look better and taste really good... soon they will want to try yours and even like yours. :)

Hey Kim1214, that's great about the grant. Some of the teachers at a local middle school here started a "Staff biggest Loser" contest. They too wanted to be good examples to the students. Now the students are actually cheering on these teachers. Maybe when you talk to the coordinators you could sugguest a similiar "learn by our example" approach. The kids don't know the actual weight of the staff only the team losses and they only weigh in once a month. Everyone seems to be a winner in this. :)
