I went ahead and changed my diet listed and listed a new goal. I don't like to do that b/c it makes your progress start over again, but I haven't really been following Weight Watchers for a long time as it was listed. I have just mainly been eating healthfully and consciously and working out regularly. I set my new goal to 134. I am at 137 today still. I'm feeling good about seeing the scale start to go down again after a LONG plateau!! I will run on the treadmill this afternoon. My next goal is I plan to run in a local popular 5K race the first weekend in April, as long as it is not too cold that weekend. I started adding in inclines at intervals on the treadmill to my run to simulate hills. For all of us, I think interval training is a great thing for your body. Try raising your speed and going fast for 30 seconds to 2 min, or running like that if you have never run, then bring it back down. Same thing now as I am adding in an incline to the run.

I will check in with your journals later, but better get some more house stuff done before dinner!! I registered my baby for kindergarten today. Sigh. It's good though and I love our school. Hope you all are having a good day.

Oh, by the way- my triathlon results are in:
Women participating from our YMCA: 5th pl. out of 13
Of all 20 men and women from our Y: 11th place
Of all 22 women from all area Y's: 12th place

Not too bad I guess. There were some killer times there, esp. from one Y in particular. Those people must have been on something! The men even beat our top woman who is the "All American Triathlon Amateur." Stiff competition! Everyone was athletic that I saw. AND, you will be proud to know my overall time was just about exactly the same as the 16 year old swim team guy! Go 30's!!

Question for ya! Is "interval training" what I am doing when I skip rope to one hundred or two hundred steps - just enough to really get my heart rate up there where I am almost out of breath - then I "walk it off" for a few minutes to re-regulate my heart rate - then jump again and again and again? Could you give me an answer over on my journal? Thanks so much! Good luck with the new diet and goal! Much love!

Thanks so much for your answer to my question about interval training. Based on your description - I don't think my rope-jumping is TRUE interval training unles I continue a non-resting activity after my spurts of rapid jumping. To do leg lifts, stretches, scissor kicks, knee bends, or lunges on the patio deck between series of 100 would probably be more beneficial than what I am doing now. Thanks again!

Wonderful results from your triathalon! Way to represent the 30's (not that I'm still in that range)! I've been doing intervals on the treadmill, too, and not only is it good for you - for me it makes the time go faster. I've been running more each time on the treadmill, but I don't think I'm ready for a race of any kind yet. I can do distances - just not speeds. Keep up the great work!

Good for you amryk! You guys have me curious about this "interval" approach. I am going to try something with my walking. I am still "scared" of jogging. I think I must have had a "bad experience" with jogging somewhere in the past and I have blocked it from my memory! Ha!

I think you did great with your placing in the triathalon. You deserve to feel proud! A 5k sounds like a nice change of pace. I remember reading somewhere that one should be able to run 10k to compete well in a 5k. Weren't you already running that far already? At any rate, I'm sure you'll do well. Your baby is starting kindergarten this fall? Such a milestone. Seems like only yesterday that my college girl started kindergarten.... Time flies! If you're interested in interval training, have you read up on Fartleks? It's supposed to really help increase your speed and endurance in running. I am considering doing some Fartlek training come spring. Just Google it and you'll find lots of info on it. Good luck!

Great scores/placements on the triathalon! I love hearing your training journey. I hear interval training is the best type of training also. Whenever I'm on the treadmill or eliptical (it's been awhile) for every 10 mins of exercise I would increase the speed so my HR was in the 150-160's for 1.5 minutes then go back down to a cardio rate of 130s. Getting a heart rate monitor is key. Thanks for the Fartlek info, Evelyn!
