A few days ago I posted I wanted to figure out how to eat oatmeal. I hate it as a cereal. This morning I mixed 1/2 cup oatmeal with 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce, a tablespoon of honey, 2 tablespoons chopped almonds and some cinnamon. I just took it out of the oven. Doesn't look like much but I'll see how it tastes. Looking at my food diary I wondered why I am bothering with oatmeal, it only has 5 grams of protein (always my focus) and then I remembered - whole grains, I need to eat some whole grains.
Had another gallstone or gallbladder attack last night. Lasted well over an hour. I had given in to cravings and baked a ciabatta roll and then ate it with a couple tablespoons of butter. 2nd time butter has done that to me. I think I've learned my lesson. I see the doctor again on Tuesday. I am going to ask him to refer me to a GI specialist.

Didn't your doctor give you any food list? I’ve found many on the Internet, and they all agree that animal fat is to be avoided (be careful with the yogourt you mentioned, and make it fat-free), as well as deep-fried, processed or refined food. You could get your protein from vegetable sources (legumes, nuts, tofu, quinoa), but maybe also from chicken/turkey without the skin, fish and egg yolks.

You don't need to have such a restrictive diet as the Daniel fast, there are more options open to you. Here one example of advice: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/Health/aftercareinformation/pages/conditions.aspx?hwid=uh4542

Hi I am new to this site. I have gained so much weight within the last 10 years. Just have to remind myself I have to less of some of the foods I liked 20 years ago.

Instead of frying your eggs, you can make an omelette in a baggie. I am on a gerd diet and my foods are very limited. I just take a PBA free small plastic freezer bag, scramble 2 eggs in a cup and pour into the bag. I add chopped bell peppers, cheese, spinach, etc. Then just squeeze the bags to mix everything. Wrap the top of the bag over a wooden spoon and I use a binder clip to hold it in place. Put it into a medium pot of boiling water & cook for 15 or so minutes. The wooden helps it cook evenly. No need to add any oil, butter, etc. I can't have anything fried. I eat Quaker Instant Cream of Wheat with milk. I drink Lactaid milk so it adds a little sweetness to it. Then I add fresh berries. I drink Abouttime whey protein isolate, sweetened w/Stevia, lactose, gluten n soy free. I mix it with lowfat milk. The chocolate is delish and the strawberry is also tasty. Right after a workout, I just mix it with milk for a quick protein source. My 2nd I add enough ingredients to make into a mini meal.

Thanks everyone! I've had red meat once in the past 2 months. I haven't had eggs in over a month. I am avoiding red meat, eggs, shrimp, butter and cheese. I do have non fat milk. I've had very little of the things I shouldn't have, but when I've had them, I've had gallbladder "attacks". I went at least a month without any problems and that included the 21 days where I did the Daniel fast. Problems began again as I added back food back to my diet. So I didn't "heal" during that time apparently since problems began once I started eating like I normally do after the fast. I've found that drinking lots of water helps, especially if I have it before and after having something I shouldn't have. You probably are asking "if you know you shouldn't have it, why are you indulging?" I know, I know. Eva - my doctor didn't give me a list of foods to eat. But I've found them online. I haven't been frying foods at all.

Keyten - I had the gallstone attacks before I started the Daniel fast and had hoped, since I had no pain or other symptoms while on the fast that things had calmed down in my gallbladder. I had "attacks" 6 or 7 years ago. 2 or 3 attacks within a couple days of each other. They were bad, lasted a couple of hours. I saw my doctor who ran a bunch of tests, including an ultrasound. She said the ultrasound showed gallstones and suggested I try to eat low fat and not over eat. I had no problems until this past Thanksgiving. And during those 6 or 7 years I ate plenty of burgers, pizza and potato chips. Although not all that often. So I guess I'm surprised these episodes keep happening whenever I have just a bit of things I shouldn't have. I saw a surgeon and he told me the gallstones I had 7 years ago are still in my gallbladder. But when I asked my doctor why I had the pain and why the pain stopped - he told me the pain stopped when the stones got through the duct (not sure if he meant the cystic duct or bile duct). I guess they both could be right. The pains from years ago lasted for hours and all the attacks since Thanksgiving (probably 5 or 6) have been brief, from 5 minutes to an hour. Like you, I doubt I could be vegan. But maybe something close. I just don't like to cook all that much and need to be able to buy jars of applesauce or cans of soup. I started heating up water during the fast, but still don't like hot water - just a little warm is fine.

Glad you are thinking about the specialist. It is probably what I would do
