Good for you Fritzy, I used to love to walk, wish I still could, but my ankle won't allow it. Beautiful scenery!

How great that you live near all these great places to hike. Lake Tahoe is incredibly beautiful. I've only been there once. Enjoy, Fritzy!

fritzy, be happy that you can walk even a little. I can only go about 10 ft and I get so winded and my heart feels like it's going to fly out of my chest. We've got to start with baby steps. You and me both.

Also glad you got to walk with such grand scenery! I love walking, but it sometimes hurts me. Enjoyed your pic 😁

Thanks Shirfleur - sorry you can't walk because of your ankle. Will it ever get better so you would be able to walk a little? It's a nice stress reliever for me. Thanks Tatauu, it was a nice day! A little cold but I warmed up as I walked. Thanks Liv-I hope to get back to hiking again. About 20 pounds and I'd be able to do some of my favorite hikes again! Go I've got some motivation. Mira - Tahoe is beautiful and there are so many hikes near there. From Desolation Wilderness where you can hike and camp for days, weeks even. I do day hikes. There is also the Tahoe Rim trail and just so many others where your destination is a beautiful lake. I have to keep thinking about it. Skinnymini- 2 years ago I started walking in my neighborhood and could only walk a short distance. I tried to increase the distance by one driveway every day and eventually I got up to walking at least 4 miles a day. It was baby steps for me, and I still avoid the biggest hills. I breathe too hard going up those right now. Binkytexas, thanks for your support. It is pretty where I live and this is the best time of the year to walk, before it gets hot in the summer and before the allergies impact me in the spring.

I'm glad you could enjoy your breakfast without an ER trip! 😁 I'm so glad you are walking so much! I honestly would love to go with you! I always find it ever so much better to walk with a pal. I haven't been walking a lot lately and just going to the gym and running some. A friend that frequently walked with me ten miles was willing to take advantage of the break in rain and we did a ten mile, pretty speedy walk. That was after a hard workout in the gym. I thought I was going to perish by the time I got back to the car! It is crazy how easy it is for "easy" things to become hard when not part of your routine. My legs were quite sore, but next morning after my trip to the gym, which was a pretty hard workout, they got all limber again and I feel fine! I really think you will get back to hiking! You are a determined lady, and you know the joy and freedom it is to go the distance. Just get those thigh muscles strengthened up! Squats and holding a leg up at your hip and then straightening your leg can help. Add an ankle weight and it will help more! I'm sure you can find so many good things to help. Cheering you on!!!! ❤️

Walking is a great and underrated activity...

I like to walk with people too, but when I do I have to walk their pace because they can’t walk mine. It’s ok, it’s just good to support their efforts as well, but when I’m in it for me, I go by myself.

Fritzy, the only thing would be an ankle replacement, a relatively new procedure compared to knee and hip. I plan to look into it once I've lost a bit more weight.

The thing about any kind of replacement whether it be knee, hip, ankle. Don’t even bother IF you are not committed to keeping the weight off. Why bother. You will be back in the same painful position or worse IF you are just loosing weight to even qualify for the surgery. We in the medical field see it all the time. Loose 50 lb, qualify for the surgery and get it done and regain the same 50 lb. eating during the recovery phase.

Thanks jcmama - Tahoe is beautiful and about 1 1/2 hour drive for me. But I rarely go anymore. Instead I drive 4 hours to the Northern California coast. But once I can hike again, I'll spend plenty of time in or near Tahoe. Melissa - I wasn't even tempted by those meat lover omelets or hash browns. While French toast has loads of carbs and sugar it didn't hurt me. I told them to leave off the big glob of butter they usually put on top. I doubt we could walk together. I remember when I first started reading your posts and you were showing pictures from your 10 mile walks. You walk about twice as fast as I do! I'll do a new journal today - hint: I actually joined a gym yesterday! Steven - I agree with you about walking! I find it's a great way to relieve stress. Kenna - I know it must be hard to walk with people who walk slower than you. But it is nice to have company. I am trying to pick up my pace a little bit. shirfleur - an ankle replacement sounds like a big decision to make.

Good morning fritzy, I had both knees replaced and it was a breeze. Never had pain since then. You will do great! I still have my shoulders to get done and my elbows. I look forward to it. Don't be afraid. The Lord is with you! It will be just fine. I did not lose weight before I had them done. It helped me to get out and exercise more.

I love oatmeal when I have to meet someone for breakfast. It’s my favorite when it’s cold or rainy.

Fritzy— no, it’s not hard to walk with people who are slower than me. I like that they are just out doing it and I enjoy their company. NO activity is wasted movement. I just include it as part of my routine— when I hike or walk for my benefit I either go by myself or with a group like the Sierra Club.

You could absolutely walk with me! If a friend will take the time to go with me, I'm just delighted! I walk quickly by myself, with my hubby, and with one friend, but just getting out to walk and talk is lovely no matter the pace! ❤️
