Well, retirement wasn't working for me as I thought it would, I spent a lot of time cleaning. Not one of my favorite pastimes, then more time saying I should do this or that and not doing anything. So today, I go back to work. Just 3 days a week mind you, but I am very excited. Another chapter begins. I worked 35 years for the Govt just for the money, now I'm going to work at a historic mansion, saving history and educating the next generations on how people used to survive. Being as regimented as I am, my day begins with yoga, coffee, shower and work. Already better then TV, coffee, cleaning, TV. Lol. I've packed a healthy lunch and good snacks. letw see if we can get the scale moving again.

I’ve always thought that retirement would be too much of a shock. Kinda like weaning yourself off junk food rather than just cutting everything bad out of your diet immediately. Good for you! Maybe semiretirement will sit better with you! Time for work and also time for the house and yourself to pursue your hobbies.

You definitely have to prepare for retirement. I did consulting work for the first two years after I retired, then got involved in volunteer work. Eventually serving three years as president for a Main Street program, where you work to improve the historic district in your community. Now, my full-time job is retirement. Don't know how I ever had time to work!

I don't plan to retire. Everyone I know dies a couple of years after. Not me. I'm learning how to program in C#. Www.pluralsight.com has many affordable courses, YouTube too.

Mikeatencio, I retired 8 years ago and I'm still kicking, and loving every minute. Retirement gives me the freedom to do, or not do, whatever I feel like. 😊

I have a former co-worker who retired out of his corporate job, moved and joined the nature preserve museum up in Palm Springs. now, he effectively hikes for a living leading tours. he looks and feels amazing compared to the corporate grind. i'm very proud of him for finding something he loves so much.

I'm afraid of retiring. 2008 economic crash wiped us out financially. The stress of fearing homelessness is on my mind. I just don't see me retiring. Maybe semiretired.

I worked for the federal government -- nearly 30 years, mostly hunched over a computer keyboard. I learned a lot of medicine, writing and researching disability cases, was very good at my job, and made great money. AND, I'd been planning my retirement since I began my career! I took an "early-out" about 10 weeks before my 55th birthday, trading wage-slavery (chained to my job) for real freedom: happiness. It'll be 11 years as of August 31st, and I haven't regretted one minute! I took a Master Gardener certification course with the County Extension service the first year. I found a job with a private law firm, the partners of which had totally unrealistic expectations. (I told them it'd take two years to make any money because of the congested workflow in the parallel government agency. They laid me off after 11 months, the week that one of our client's cases "hit" for the maximum fee payable. Dumb.) Didn't look back this time! I get to spend all the time I want serving my parish community (Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Lancaster, SC) -- especially in adult faith formation. I read voraciously, write a lot, and enjoy a quiet life with my peach of a husband.

There's only one goal I'd set for my retirement that I have yet to achieve: losing weight and restoring my health. Enough playin' around! It's NOW.

I am absolutely loving retirement. I was told that I'd be bored and wouldn't know what to do with myself but I'm still waiting to be bored! My days are filled with the things I want to do - silversmithing, gardening, swimming meeting friends and family and since I'm a book dragon (mega worm here) reading loads of books!
