fellow fs peeps......please help....
I have been doing walking exercise (Leslie Sansome - mainly) which ranges from 1 mile to a 5 mile fast paced walk (cardio). Anyway in doing this i have somehow seriously injured my knee. I have rested it for a week with no exercise. But i need to get back into some form of exercise routine that doesn't strain the knee. What exercise routine do you peeps suggest. I thought of trying yoga or strength and tone, but i also need to do cardio. How do i do cardio without hurting the knee.

Awww so sorry to hear you injured your knee! Ok, well swimming would be the best cardio option if you have access to a pool of course. Other options would be cycling, rowing, or the elliptical machine if you have access to the gym. Otherwise step ups at a comfortable height or skipping if done correctly on the correct kind of floor shouldn’t put pressure on The knees either.

I agree with @listentoyourbody.... I would stick with swimming as a first choice... I have a back problem and a mild twang in my left knee, and can do rowing pretty easily without any strain.

I am not ethically allowed to dispense medical advice on this forum in my professional capacity. BUT I had recent knee trouble and am currently on a rehab programme for it (hence my complete lack of any exercise logged in the last 2 weeks.) Please go and see a doc who knows something about sports medicine and injury rehab. If sorted out quickly, the problem will be gone sooner. Don't just take helpful advice, get Professional advice. You can PM me if you need to be pointed in the right direction. Good luck.

Also go to a shop that specializes in walking / running shoes. They will diagnose you while walking on a treadmill to advise the exact type of shoe you need. What I thought was going to be good for me on Google search actually would have caused a knee injury if I followed my own advice instead of getting a professional opinion after they tested me! 2 sports shops gave the very same result. I invested in a pair of asics stability running shoes and so far no injuries 👌🏻

I do low impact cardio workouts from you tube. I have sensitive shoulders and wrists so I also modify as needed

@betsieschaap. May I ask where you went to get your diagnosis (which shops)

Halo Monica I went to Menlyn - basically every sports shop which sells running shoes has a treadmill and can do it for you. You just ask. I bought mine at sportsmans warehouse. Can't remember the names of the other stores 🤦‍♀️

What about Yoga or Pilates

Agree with ThreeOh8 - go and get it seen to before you start any exercise programme. I also have a knee problem and kept pushing myself to get it right and after deciding to walk 10km (huge mistake) went to dr and he said I had bursitis. Knee pain continued and I went to physio and he diagnosed ITB strain and sorted but my original problem of tight feeling in the calves is still there after nearly 2 years and it's just over use so I've stopped walking and am now able to manage the "pain". Good luck
